In 1912 the Sea Scout Program was established within the Boy Scouts of America. The new program was designed to challenge young men who had achieved a higher level of maturity and were ready for more adventure after completing the Eagle Rank requirements. The Sea Scout Program has become the largest continuing youth boating organization in the country.
2005 saw the beginning of the “Tsunami” that would be the newest Sea Scout Unit in the Cascade Pacific Council. By incorporating twelve new fresh Eagle Scouts from Boy Scout Troop 442 the new Sea Scout Ship 678 would set course to the future.
In 2011 the National Sea Scout Council selected the Tsunami to be the National Flag Ship. A northwest area Sea Scout Unit had not been bestowed that honor since 1936. Tsunami also continued to be recognized by the National Council to serve with the National Flagship Fleet for the next 3 years.
Today as the times change and we follow the new Scouting America movement, SSS Tsunami will continue to provide a quality program of Maritime skill, Leadership, Teambuilding, Personal Development.
